Position Description: Cafe barista and food handling

 

The Great Stupa is seeking a casual staff member to work in our StupaView café for 3 – 5 shifts per week, with an immediate start. The café is managed by a small team, and it is important that all staff support all areas within the cafe and each other.

 

The Café Team Member duties are wide ranging and include all aspects of the cafe: setup and pack up of the café, taking customer orders, making barista beverages, food preparation, cooking food, assisting with ordering food and supplies, maintaining food hygiene standards, cleaning of the kitchen, dining, and work areas as per health standards, cash handling and balancing the café till, clearing and cleaning tables.

 

The operating hours of the StupaView Café are currently 10:30am – 3:00pm, however, these hours are subject to change if needed; longer opening hours may apply for festivals and events. Availability on weekends, public holidays, and during holiday periods is required to meet the needs of our customers. Days / times of your shifts will vary as per the needs of the roster.

 

Barista, safe food handling, and cash handling skills will be required. Exceptional customer service and previous experience is essential.

 

Applications will close once we find the right person to join our growing team. Remuneration will be per the Hospitality Industry (General) Award – Level 2.

Do you want to be involved in The Great Stupa project?

Volunteers make a huge contribution to The Great Stupa and the events we run. We value our volunteers and the time, energy and talent they contribute to our organisation.

There are various opportunities for people to become involved; please see below, or if you feel you have something else to contribute we’d love to hear from you.

CleaningGeneral cleaning duties inside the Exhibition Centre to upkeep a pleasant environment for visitors, and cleaning within The Great Stupa prior to festivals, and the holy objects.
Gardening and general labourWorking with the landscaping team doing weeding, watering, and planting of trees and flowers, and creating garden features, as well as general maintenance of The Great Stupa grounds.
Tour guidingTaking visitors for an informative tour through the Exhibition Centre, Peace Park, and The Great Stupa, and processing sales within the shop.
Data entry/administrationGeneral data entry, filing, laminating, stock pricing, and providing assistance to office staff with various tasks.
EventsDifferent roles are available for our two annual events; illumin8 in May, and Vegecareian Festival in October.
