Description
This authentic, traditional long mala is handmade in Nepal, from bodhi seed beads with turquoise and coral coloured spacers.
Near the town of Gaya (later Bodhgaya), Shakyamuni Buddha sat under what was called a pipal tree and entered meditation. There he attained enlightenment, and the pipal tree later became known as the Bodhi Tree.
The seeds from Bodhi trees have been used to make malas, and remind us Buddha’s journey to enlightenment.
The mala is often used so that one can focus on the meaning or sound of a mantra, while the beads are used to keep count. One repetition is usually said for each bead while turning the thumb clockwise around each bead.
Each bead is approximately 11mm wide.
